I have just put a different heater in to my moggy van and now the wipers wont work. So i have disconneted the switch and made another feed green the other one goes off to the heater. But now muddled as to what wire goes where on the back of switch to make the wipers work?
I have the following wires: green, green and black and black, in wiring digram it says to use terminals 1,3 and 2 but i dont have these I do have 1 top left of switch, bottom right of it have 7 bottom right 8 and then terminal to right on back either labelled 5 or 6.
Help
many thanks
Marcus

A switch with 1 to 8 contacts looks like a light switch. A wiper switch has 1,2,3 and earth. Green to 2, green/black to 1 and black to earth. This info is from wiring diagrams, I have not looked at my car.

Don't know then. Could be different as it is a van. You could try same contacts as a light switch, that is 4 for feed and 7 or 8 for load. Don't worry about the black earth wire, I've never understood why it was needed anyway.

The wires on the wiper switch should be black/green and black. The black/green is connected to the wiper motor and the switch 'earths' the wiper motor through the black wire. There is no ignition 'green' feed wire to the wiper switch as such - unless someone has been making changes?

They probably don't work now because the fuse has blown.

My Haynes manual diagrams look wrong.
Will have a look under my dash later and get back to you.

Okay, take it all back. The switch on my car is a simple 2 contact switch with green/black going back to the wiper motor and a black going to earth. My key on my diagrams led me astray.
Back to your original problem, don't know what your switch is from but try green/black on 4 and black on 7. Just insulate the green as the green feed for the wipers actually goes to the wiper motor.
(Lesson learnt for me, go and look at your car, don't depend on diagrams.)

As above, you have a light switch for the wipers so make use of it and fit electric washers as well.
See MY wiring instructions under Electric Washer Unit, 1st May 2012

Thanks for every ones help.I used used 5 /6 for the green and black (the back connection) and 7 for the black and it worked! Only to throw up another problem that the wiper motor nylon wheel inside the wiper motor is warped and hence this is why now and then they stick and now they get stuck! So another wiper motor is in order!
As it happens it is most defn an on off switch for wipers, that I have as have just taken one out of another car and been given another.
Thanks again Marcus

The wiring diagram is spot on as it is on the car/van.
It's shown in it's entiraty as wiper motor and switch the legend clearly states that. See pic.

The switch ringed in red has 2 wires a black that goes to earth via a wire at the control box & a black/green that goes to terminal 1 on the motor. The motor (it does look like a schematic of a switch like the light switch doesn't it). Terminal 2 has a green wire that goes to voltage stabiliser in the speedo unit. Terminal 1 a black/green wire that goes to the cab switch and terminal 3 a black wire that goes to earth via a wire.[frame]

The earths are described in the legend as 55 earth via a body/bolt (local) & 54 earth via a cable[frame]

Simple really That's how I sorted mine out today
