Alex, my dash gauges are standard Smiths ones from that era. They are all black faced, as I thought the black was a nice contrast with the cream dash.
The tachometer is 80mm wide and is RVI 1433/00, which is quite similar to those fitted to Midgets and whatnot (though I've no idea which vehicle this model comes from).
I also have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, mechanical water temperature gauge (which technically
was an oil pressure gauge too, but since the Bourdon tube works in any fluid, I simply repainted the word "oil" to "water," and it functions quite well), and ammeter. Each of these is 52mm wide.
Drilling through the glovebox cover was easier than I expected; the exposed face is thin steel and the innards are wood and cloth. But, if you go this route, be careful that the cover is well steady before drilling, as if it's not secured, it'll go flying!
