I am really losing heart with my search now.

After several failed attempts to buy a car, including one person pulling out of the sale days before I was due to collect the car, I've just been stitched up by an eBay seller who yesterday promised to sell me their Traveller outside of eBay. We agreed a price and collection arrangements and he said he would remove it from eBay after I sent across a deposit of £100.

He then ignored all texts and calls and didn't send across his bank details for me to pay the deposit, so I was forced to bid on eBay and ended up losing by a measly £50.

I am heartbroken and wonder why I am bothering when it seems to be so difficult to buy a car like this. I am a completely genuine buyer who want a Morris to love and look after and I just feel so upset that people are so unscrupulous, and have no qualms about letting people down! I spend all my days trawling the net until my eyes hurt, and every time I find a car it either gets snapped up by someone who doesn't work and can dash to viewings at the drop of a hat, or something like this happens.

Sorry for the rant, but I really thought I was close to finally owning a Morris.

Sorry to hear of your experience. There are indeed both buyers and sellers who insist on messing people about (see my comments in the cars for sale section about a complete time-waster when trying to sell my saloon).
I can only assume that he thought he could gain a higher price by letting the auction run and ignoring the deal he had struck with you. It is such a shame when one party is genuinely trying to buy or sell yet the other party cannot offer the same courtesy.
I am sure you will find another car.....there are plenty out there at a range of prices. Good luck with your search.

The irony is I would have been happy to negotiate, and he would have saved on eBay fees too. Never mind....I'm sure the extra couple of hundred quid he made made it worthwhile!

God i know the feeling sooo well i'm fed up of spending time and money going to veiwings of travellers that are quoted as being "A1 and Immaculate! and when i've spent my hard earned cash on petrol and time off work i find the car needs an awefull lot of work and money spent on them oh and by the way i was guzzumped only three weeks ago by a dreaded "ebay" seller grrrrr

It's frustrating but don't give up. One will turn up eventually and then the wait will be forgotten while you enjoy the pleasures of ownership. While you are looking you can be learning so much from the forum that when you do get a car you will feel like an expert from the off..........or at least know where to ask questions

Just be pateint and things will work out.... try classic car weekly as well, some reasonable priced ones in there in various areas over the country...

My sister''s getting married in May and I had my heart set on driving her to the village church in my traveller! I'd also love to be ready for the new season of meets and rallies, especially with the two special events this year.

Emma, sorry to hear of that. I know your preferences, but there are some fantastic cars out there, just in different colours Stick with it, it will come right.

I've been keeping a check on Ebay and other sights for you but it seems the price of Travellers is on the rise A few months ago £3,500 - £4,000 would buy a very nice example with a lengthy MOT. Now they're £5,000 - £7,000!
