Headlamp Ajustment

Hi,

Last week my moggie failed its MOT on the drivers headlamp being out of adjustment (too high) and a leaking damper. Both have now been fixed and we have a pass. Hurrah!!!!
To get the the adjustment required I had to adjust it out right to the end and add a 1/4" packing behind the adjuster.Such is the adjustment that I have only just been able to get the chrome rim back on.
Now I did replace the headlamps for halogens (Wipacs @£9.99 from my local motor factors) and retro fitted them, I am puzzeled though as the nearside passed ok without adjustment, but the offside needed so much? Sureley it cant be that the beam patterens are different to ordinary filament bulbs?

Any Ideas anyone?

Could just be the way the bowl is fitted into the wing - or indeed - the fitting of the wing to the car!

My son had this in his Astra but he had fitted the halogen bulb the wrong way round.

Hi,
It's not the bulb as they are both seated correctly. The bowl is sitting correctly in the wing with no gaps around the seal. I thought about the wing being fixed incorrectly, the lines look straight along the door and bonnet but how do you determine if the wing is fixed incorrectly?

Simply as you have done - it will only take a small mis-alignment of the headlamp mounting flange to throw the beam upwards slightly. If you think the problem is in the headlamp itself - swap it to the other side and see if the beam aim goes with the headlamp.....

Cheers Roy,

At the moment I will leave it alone. I will though keep an eye on the adjusters as I don't want them to work loose over time and the headlamp fall out!!
