can any one help me with identifying 2 cylinder head I have acquired?[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

If you can post some pictures I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Well the bottom one is a standard 1098 head 12G202.
Not sure about the top one.

The 1098 head has a blanking plug on the side near the thermostat housing (for a temperature sender) I think.

If there are no more markings on the 'top' head, then someone may be able to work it out from the diameter of the inlet/exhaust valves.

I have checked the head in the top picture and there are no other markings on it than the ones in the picture. In reply to "moggalot" there is no plug/hole in the side of the thermostat housing. I have taken out a inlet and exhaust valve and there are as flows

inlet: 27.88mm
exhaust: 25.55 and there was a marking on the valve that I could just about make out "XB2711 A3

With those size valves it's almost certainly a 948 cc engine. Possibly an MG engine as fitted to the Mk 1 Midget/Mk1 & Mk 2 Sprite (engine number starts with 9CC). Not sure if the 948 Minor had the same size valves but probably will have done.

Just to throw a tad more light on the first head in your picture, the series of numbers Interprets as follows: AS3 was used by the Austin motor company and fitted into their A30 car, then know as the new 'Austin Seven'. After BMC was formed, the Morris company decided to re-code the heads with their own stampings which are: 2A3 and AF2, this latter number was never used much as a reference and to day there are no records left which could inform us any further.

The Morris company fitted these heads to the Series 11 cars, better know as the first of the OHV engined Minors, although still rather under powered as the Minor was a much heavier car. The valve sizes between the 803 and the 948 are virtually the same. however, the 948 did eventually have its own head and its stamping number was: 2A629, these heads did featured slightly larger exhaust ports, however, don't get too excited, as we are only talking a few millmeters here.

Both heads look to be in a 'state'....let's see the face of the 202 head = the 1098 head. The other head will make a good door stop......
