Morning all.

Long story short, pulled the traveller out the barn at the weekend (I hang my head in shame as it has been there for 18 years).

I am looking forward to modifying it up with a new engine etc but in the first instance I am keen to get it running as it is. SO the $64,000 question is, Where is recommended as a good place for parts.

After a quick look over it last night in the garage I am looking to get.

full set of brakes well all the shoes and cylinders any way.
fuel pump
set of points
condenser
coil
dizzy cap and leads etc

As I say have been looking at some of the new "sexy" engines which you guys are now fitting but just now want to get the moggy to run and stop and a MoT

Why would it need a coil - is the old one missing? Check if you perhaps have a place local to you to save postage. Many of these parts you will get at your local 'autoparts' place - and possibly less expensive too............

no it is there just keen to get a full set of ignition shipped in and fitted to totally remove this as a potential issue?

I used to use a place in Edinburgh but they are not handy for me now and I am keen to just get a box shipped with the part in it I need to get it going. As I say it has been sat 18 years so not like a short delay for the shipping is to be a problem

Also if you're hunting parts in the future putting your location under your username will help in your search. Someone local may just have what you are after so saving postage!

Don't assume that new is better than what is fitted.
The quality of many new parts is suspect to put it mildly!

Hoses and other rubber parts in particular, though there are better materials for suspension bushes.

MarkyB that is a very good point, I had not given much thought about the rubber parts on the old moggy bar looking for 4 new tyres soon. Even if they still held air after 18 years stood still

My advice - keep the original coil.... And avoid the electronic fuel pumps that are around now. Again - nothing wrong with the old pump - just clean the points.

Having got an MOT on a car that was in a barn for 20 years I think you will find you have to renew a lot more than you think. Virtually everything with rubber in it will be perished. That includes suspension bushes, oil seals, brake seals, brake flexis, fuel pipes as well as the obvious tyres and hoses. I ended up getting complete brake system excluding drums.

Ah beero, you are more than right on the rubber bushing etc, I got a quick look under it tonight and yep will be on my back for a few evenings soon replacing these parts too

But some good news washed it off and it is looking all ok [frame][/frame]

Top news... It is running, and started almost first turn of the key. (well press of the button on the bulkhead)

Will look into setting the timing properly and looking to see where the tick over control is on the weber then fingers crossed it will tick over.

But have a day off tomorrow so might spend some more time on it then.
