LP936 wheels - tyre sizes YAWN

Hi all,

Have been dredging the forum for info but I can't quite find the information I'm looking for.....or I'm too simple to understand tyre codes.

Recently picked up a set of LP936 van wheels from under a pile of rocking-horse poo. They currently have 165 tyres on two, and 155 tyres on another two, which I understand is the maximum you can fit on the front for decent clearance.

The tyres don't seem to have the profile size on them, they are pretty old. I was wondering what is the best profile to fit in terms of availability/cost and not altering the gearing too much. I am up and down to Manchester quite a lot so a mild gear-up would probably be nice for the M6 when I do get over 60mph.

My current thinking is 155/80R/14 on the front, and 165/80R/14 on the back. Is this sensible?

Car has standard 1098 engine, gearing and diff. 2nd engine is awaiting rebuild to 12G946 head and mild air in/out tuning so won't have much more oomph than standard.

PS wheels going in for powder-coat tomorrow, apparently RAL 9010 is as close as you can get to Old English White?

VERY rare wheels - well done finding them. 155 x 80 x 14 is a perfect size for these wheels - just use them front and back.

Not sure what I typed before but 155/80/ R14 tyres seem to not exist, definitely not a common size it seems.

Anyone any thoughts on alternative sources or alternative sizes?

All Minor suppliers do them at the very least. Toyo and Nankangs seem a popular choice.

They are a very common size - and ideal for the 4.5J wheels. Some do fit 165 X 70 X 14 tyres - but really they are too wide for 4.5J and will have 'wobbly' side walls.......leading to wooly handling!
