Replacement Jacking Point

Hello Folks, the Traveller I have had its undersides replaced in about 2000 and this included a new cross member with replacement jacking points. One of the "crank" jacks I have does not fit it and the orange "A" frame ones would also not fit it, as the jacking point hole shape is upside-down. The jack connecting finger has the curve on the top edge.[frame]Image[/frame]
Ignoring the fact that I have to deal with the bottom part of the driver's door, any comments on the fitment?

Stick a rubber bung in it and forget about it. Get yourself a good scissor jack and jack the car up under the suspension. The central jacking point puts too much stress on the car

Yours is a splitscreen traveller isnt it? They wouldnt have been fitted with this type of jacking point but the older bracket under the back wheelarch and on the front wing were it bolts on at the A post - so I would cut these off and forget about them!!! The first Minor 1000s came with the type of jacking point in your pic.

Whatever you decide to do - NEVER EVER use the sill jacking points on any Minor. They are purely there for decoration - not for jacking the car........

Hi,
I tried using these when I first got my car, never again.....................
Admittedly I've had a bit of welding done since but the sounds of stress that came from her were enough to put me off ever doing this again.
I use the chassis legs at the front and the diff casing at the back, with axle stands quickly replacing the trolley jack used to lift her, I hasten to add.

Silly me I should have spotted the split screen. These are the jacking points which should be on your car, but still do not use the pillar jack[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Thanks folks. I do have the correct single pillar jack for the model of car, late Series II, (in its original "tool roll") and I also have another hand crank one that only fits the jacking point socket when upside down. I haven't even attempted to use the pillar one as it looks very unsafe (and the rod is missing, but the correct jack location plates are in place).
I have jacked up the car, using a hydraulic trolley jack, but I did place the jack head under the jacking point socket.
As this area looks very sturdy from the underbody replacement, I took the chance.
On my previous 1964 saloon, I used to happily use the red/orange "A" frame type of jack for wheel changing, but always used a hydraulic bottle jack for car lifting to place axle stands.
The question remains - is this replacement jacking point contructed the wrong way round?
It also looks like it should not have had it fitted. Should I have it cut off to preserve the correct look of the car?

Addenda - I've just reread some of the posts and it looks like I should have them cut off.

Other posts have stated they are not original type and the consensus of opinion does seem to be 'don't use them'.

As to cutting them off, if you are going for authentic and original then do so but you may wish to ask for owners of 'period correct' vehicles to send you some pictures of what this area should look like first, so you can re-instate it; otherwise leave them in place and don't worry.
