Clutch biting point is very high

Hi all - my sons Moggie's clutch biting point is extrememly high, around 1/2 inch from its at-rest position. I've read about adjusting the free play when its very low (i.e. on the floor) but can the same adjustments work for improving the other way round?
Or, is it time for him to think about getting a new clutch fitted?
Cheers in advance
Mark

Yup, if it's too high adjust the rod out, although 1/2 inch isn't too far at all. Should be 3/4 free play..
Certainly don't worry about the clutch yet!

3/4" free play is for a 948- IIRC it's almost double that for the 1098 cars (I think 1 1/4"). Hopefully someone will pop up with the correct figure for the 1098s. Don't know which you have, but like Chesney said, it could make a differnce, particularly if the adjustment is such that the clutch isn't engaging fully at the moment. Ultimately though, it could indicate that the clutch is very worn. Adjust it and see- hopefully all will be well!

As long as you can engage 1st /reverse without crunching with the pedal on the floor and there is no clutch slip and some free play with the pedal up then I would not bother getting the tape measure out

My 1100 gearbox'ed 950 is fine at 3/4 free travel. I actually prefer it closer to the floor, may adjust to suit.

Make sure there is a return spring on the lever system - and adjust to 1" of free play - ie complete free play at the pedal pad until it makes contact with the clutch. It's not that critical - 1" is fine for all gearboxes.
