3.9 diff

please can anyone tell me how do you tell if it is a 3.9 or a standard diff.i have them side by side and i cant find any numbers etc and they both look the same,

There will be numbers stamped - check carefully.

If you really can't find any numbers whatsoever, you'll have to count the number of teeth on the crown wheel (mark them off with chalk or something) and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion wheel. The numbers should be stamped on the side of the crown wheel though from memory!

A 3.9 diff has 39 teeth on the crownwheel and 10 teeth on the pinion.
