Is that a low compression van engine?

I once dug an Austin Seven out of a garden in Willersey, Gloucestershire that had been used by a lady who acted in a travelling theatre in the 1930s. She was more interesting than the Austin Seven. Years ago you could find all sorts of vehicles tucked away in old barns/garages/sheds etc. Harder to find these days but they do turn up occasionally. These days I cannot go past a boarded up barn/garage/shed without wondering what is inside!

Most barn finds are either being restored or slowly being weighed in for scrap.

Having said that, I am about to take on another project which hasn't turned a wheel for 20 years![frame][/frame]

Good luck with the new project, looks in good shape, how much work do you think it will need?

Brakes need a complete overhaul (m/cyl. bone dry), engine will need a full service and thorough checking, underneath will need rustproofing, bodywork will need attention and a good polish and wax if it's to stand up to the elements. Hoses will need replacing. Basically a full mechanical going over, the body is very sound which is why I bought it. I think it would've been crushed if I hadn't.

It also has a very familiar engine (1098), albeit in transverse, gearbox-in-sump form:[frame][/frame]

Nice looking allegro, they were good little cars in their day, the wfe's first car. Can't remember now, were they wet suspension?

Thanks, yes Hydragas, a development of the Hydrolastic system in use on the BMC 1100/1300 and Mini. A Dunlop Nitrogen filled sphere at each wheel connected each side front to back via a pipe filled with some fluid or other.

That was it, if I remember rightly it was a very simular ride to the hydrolastic cars (a bit like being sat in a rowing boat), I put a 69 mini cooper with wet suspension back on the road a few years ago, very odd, feeling sea sick after several miles, all the 'sleeping police' around these days did not help!
