Ive been looking on the net for what engine i have plus what the original engine was from what engine codes i have but im struggling to find what they are.
original = 10MAVH230001
current = 12V923EH2

original i found is a 1098 but not sure and connot find what the MAV stands for
current is a 1275 from a morris ital but then dont know what the rest is



Also as a side note, on the right hand side on the back of the block i think i can make out that its got 1098 cast into it. does that mean i have a 1098 block with a 1275 head?

1098 was never 'cast' in the side of the block...but 950 was, for the 948 engine. The 1098 engine had a little stamped aluminium plate with '1100' attached where the mechanical fuel pump opening would be. Does the suspected 1275 block have cam follower covers on the lh side ?? The engine number is in any case attached to the block - not the head.

if you look at this ebay listing and go to the second picture it has 1279 withing the casting of the block. this is where mine has got 1098. the engine code that I found on mine was by the rocker cover next to the thermostat housing on a thin piece of plate

The ebay number doesn't work........ but it is just a casting number and not indicative of engine capacity...... Does your block have cam follower covers??

V in the engine number - which also probably dates it as a late 1098 engine with a breather in the side/tappet chest indicates Vertical or in line as opposed to Transverse like the mini. Can't really help with the Ital/Marian number other than 12 - 1275 V as above.

number wasn't meant to be a link, couldn't get the link so its just the item number. Would the cam follower covers be just under the exhaust manifold?

All A series engines used in the standard Minor had cam follower covers on the right side of the engine (as you look from the front) just underneath the exhaust. This permitted access to the tappets which could be removed and replaced if worn. The 1275 - in order to increase the strength of the casing, did not have the covers but you can see where the tappets are by the bulges in the block. New cam followers in this engine meant the removal of the engine and camshaft!!

In a Minor - you don't need to pull the engine - just drop the sump and pull the cam....

its not meant to be a link. just an item number. would have to search manually in ebay for it in the advanced search. I'll go and have a look now for the cam follower covers. brb

Def Marina/Ital 1275 there.

The item number is not correct -or it would come up in the search....... But yes - that is a 1275 block.

Not sure about this one as there are a few things that do not seem right, flywheel looks good with its 6 bolts which sugests that it has the right crank, however I don't think that the rocker cover is the right one, it should not have a breather. I will need to check but I do not think that the two midget engines I have, have a blanking plate where the manual petrol pump would be. Just seems an odd motor.

It's much better with a rocker breather! Only Spridget 1275 blocks have the can filter.... and it's not a converted Mini block......

The crank pully and retaining bolt are another concern and finally I cannot see an oil pressure or water temp dial gauge feed on the filter or front of the head.
