door cards

My early Series 2 4 door saloon door cards are in good condition regarding the vinyl covering but the backing material is poor although they are intact they are not very flat .My questions are

They have separate plated plates that secure to the card material with a bent over tab at each end ,in the middle of these is a slot for the cone shaped retaining clips to fit to retain the card to the door ,would this arrangement be original , they certainly look very old

Running horizontally about 3 ish inches from the top of the door card is a chrome trim strip that again fits through the door card and is retained in several positions by bent over tabs

Going around the outside profile of the door card is a piping strip the same colour as the door card about 1/2 "wide that is retained to the back of the card with staples.

If my existing cards are of the correct type I do not have a problem trying to refurbish them with some new hardboard ,but if they are incorrect because of the above features and the Newton Commercial website describing the door cards as were fitted originally as being quite plain in design then I will probably buy new

So can someone please advise me

They sound like original 4 door specification to me!
The two door and traveller haven't a chrome strip or a trim to the edge.
Good luck with changing the hardboard :D

I have a bit more info having just looked at the Moss parts book in the series MM door card section it refers to the chrome trim which it says will need to be swapped over but on the Series 2 parts page no mention about the trim so would it be possible if the Moss book is correct that my items may be Series MM parts

As already stated, the chrome trim was specific to 4 door cars. It was introduced with the Series MM and carried through to the Series 2. It sounds like you have the original door cards - the various on-line catalogues & suppliers don't often show the trim panels with the chrome strip on as it is no longer available new. If buying new you would need to buy the plain 4 -door trims then fit the chrome trim from your old doors.

Thanks for the replies I have made the card templates for the door cards and worked out it will need an 8 x 4 sheet of hardboard ,I intend then to cut out the shapes on the bandsaw ,the existing door cards have an 1/8 ish felt lining so I will get this from a local material shop according to my wife ,I intend to retain the vinyl to the door card with strong double sided tape .I will try and put a few photos on the forum if people are interested of the progress.
