Hi everyone!

Has anybody had any experience with portable gazebo-style car ports? Am considering one as a temporary measure til I can get one built and would appreciate any knowledge anyone has! I'm looking at a fairly heavy duty one on line....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-Gara ... 19c6c993a2

I've never owned one of these, but I have watched as a strong wind peeled a pitched asbestos-cement roof off a brick building some 35ft x 10ft. How had you thought of anchoring one of these car ports down?

My other concern is their warranty:
" PLEASE NOTE THIS ITEM IS NOT WARRANTED FOR DAMAGE DUE TO WIND OR WEATHER. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBLITY FOR ANY DAMADGE CAUSED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS." (sic)

If the covering does rip, do you have to replace the whole cover, and at what cost? Do this firm even sell them separately?

The covering is said to be 180g, which is the thickness often used for resealable polybags.

They may be fine.

I use poly tunnels you can get 6m x 3m x 2m for about £140 on ebay better that any gazebo I had and had loads of them all broke in the lights of gust of wind but the poly tunnels last a long time got two and one is at lest two years old

can you get smaller versions of these? yours looks big and only want one the size to store one minor in, not one to work in and on around etc.... also are these ok to store cars in? being like greenhouse, surely they will get very warm inside and maybe get damp and condensation etc???????????????

I like it, not least as when you are done with shielding the car, you can grow tomatoes in em.

aparently yes - One of the Cov branch members was using a smaller poly tunnel for one of his.

Thanks everyone - the poly tunnels look great and I suppose are better designed to be outside in all weathers than gazebos! Will start Googling now

Re greenhouse effect - would ventilation help reduce this risk?

They come fitted with vents, the flaps on the side in the photo are vents.

We used something like ths to totally rebuild our Convertible. Ok the car is a little longer than the tunnel (1 1/2 feet ) but if you've removed fron wings and engine not a problem. If the car is complete you can zip down to right on top of bonnetboot so the cab section of the car is protected from the elements. You can also get replacement covers for these if the cover wears out of gets damaged. It folds back into it's box when you've finished the work.

so im guessing the minor was too long by a foot and half to fit in fully. i have van so unsure if the van is lnger then a saloon convertible etc...

From memory the saloon is about 12' long - 1" longer then the Traveller I think. We have no problem with the cover.
It made it very easy to work on the car as you just pushed it in and out if it started to rain. Sorry never had a van so cannot offer a suggestion on the length.

You can get these tunnels in longer lengths, but this just fitted the space we had in the front garden!

I've been trying to work out what size I will need and I think for a Traveller I'm going to need 6m x 3m?

Moggiethouable - if you had any details of the one you mentioned that was this sizer on ebay that would be amazing. I'm doing a trawl now but keep coming across ones that are only 2m wide, and I'd quite like to be able to get out of the car after I've parked it!

Yes that looks great - but would it be wide enough to open the door of the car once inside? I think the Traveller is 1.6m wide or something?

which i think would look better in my front garden.... the size is perfect for my minor van with plenty of room around it to get in and out...... im thinking!..... although wondering how it would with stand the winds and how long the cover would last itself before needing replacing....

That's the only trouble with these "temporary garages" We used ours during the summer to do the rebuild but took it down whn we'd finished the car. I don't think most of them would withstand the recent weather we've had!
