I'm trying to identify my car's original colour. Though my V5C states Rose-Taupe, I'm reliably informed that it is in fact Dove Grey. The paintwork is as far as I knoe original, but it does look very good and may have been repainted at some point.

Is this the right place to look and how does one decipher the number? To complicate matters, my car is a 1964 "transitional" model so it may have an earlier or later style on identification number.

Looks like your car code reads M/A2S5 which would indicate Morris - 2Door Saloon - 1098cc with D for Deluxe.

The chassis number on Minors from '52 until mid '58 include a colour code but you won't be able to tell the colour by the chassis number of later vehicles. Your chassis number details are as follows:

M = Morris
A = A series engine
2 = 2 door
S = Saloon
5 = 1098cc
D = Deluxe

From the photos of your car in the for sale forum it looks dove grey rather than rose taupe, and it is recorded on the DVLA database as Grey. To see whether it might have been resprayed look in difficult to access places such as under the dashboard to see if the paint there is a different colour to the bodywork. A heritage certificate will show the original factory specification if you need to confirm the original colour.
