New 'Lucas' Condensers

Are new Lucas condensers anything to write home about? I have fitted one today and all is well (touch Wood) I have heard many stories of the reproduction condensers not lasting 5 minutes. Would I be better fitting a new old stock condenser, or should I stick with the new one for now?

thanks folks, and I am sorry if there have been previous topics of the same nature

Kyle

Probably it will be fine. The old stock condensers will have deteriorated anyway. I do suggest carrying a spare complete top plate - or (as I do) complete spare dizzy...

Hello again :) Do you use the new lucas condensers, how have you found them, and yes carrying a whole dizzy is a safe precaution to say the least ha ha

I personally prefer conventional points, but the new lucas parts are horrendous quality. Chinese rubbish to say the least

I have always used Intermotor points and condensors and in many tens of thousands of miles use on the 803 Minor and what with the Austin Allegro covering 10,000 miles a year have never had any bother.

Chickenjohn on here is road testing the new British-made condensors.

Bmcecosse owns a traveller so he has a comprehensive repair kit - spare dizzy, cylinder head, carb, fuel pump and rumour has it there's even a coil hidden well away from public view!

On the spares front. What would be your list of essential or sensible spares to carry in the boot? Ian

Been covered many times - do a search. But frankly - the 'boot' isn't big enough - a Traveller has much better spares carrying ability!

Good point Alex,

I suppose my days of crawling about under a car at the side of the road are probably over.

As an Ex Sea going engineer with the Ben Line and P&O I have had my share of oily hands and emergency repairs especially in the Ben Line. Older ships than P&O.

Probably just have a wee tin with some plugs, fan belt, etc. Not forgetting the swiss army knife, bit of wire, tie wraps, torch.

AA relay card in the glove compartment.

Aye, I suppose you get to a stage in life when 'enough's enough' and you get sick of breakdowns.
