Evenin all.

I can apply my brakes gently but effectively BEFORE the lights come on, much to the annoyance of motorists behind me (and myself too)! I have had this in a previous moggie too. I have replaced the pressure switch. Same issue still occurs!!

current set up is:
New rear cylinders and shoes.
Front disc brake kit. (Previous mog with the issue was all original).
Servo.
Header reservoir for fluid.

Could it be the master cylinder? Brakes work fine though ....?!!

Any ideas?!!

Must be the switch....

I had the same problem and a new switch sorted it out - just don't expect the replacement switch to last as long as an original!

Hmm. Wish it was the switch. Like I say its happened before in a previous car! Maybe I will clean the spade connectors. Could the system need bleeding? Are my brakes TOO good??

Can't check anything at present as car is off road having its new 1275 engine fitted... Just keen to resolve when she's back!!

I have had this problem with my MGB which has a similar switch. I solved it (after 3 new switches) by fitting a microswitch to the brake pedal, similar to modern cars. This will be more dificult in a Minor becaue the pedal comes up through the floor and the switch would have to be fitted in the chassis member in front of the master cylinder.

They work as soon as the pedal is moved and a split second before the brakes operate.

I was hoping to avoid micro switches, but am relieved its not just me. Perhaps I should try a few more pressure switches before I resort to that. ....

Obviously modern repro's are dodgy!!

I had the same delay problem on my van. brake lights only came on once id stoped and had the brakes fully depressed. I got a switch from a car show, was probably new old stock, didnt make any difference then i got one from ESM problem solved. I thought it may have been down to me using silicone brake fluid on the van as its alot thicker then normal fluid but it wasnt the case...

To prove if the switch is faulty or it is a wiring fault remove the 2 connections from the switch and conect them together. If the brake lights come on instantly then it is a switch problem. If not then check for a dodgy earth.

In the meantime start using hand signals...

EMERGENCY STOPS AT ALL OCCASIONS!!

At least the lights come on with heavy applications...

Will try all above and report back.

Old engine extracted today. Should be roadworthy next week....
