Hi Folks, Can anyone advise on the best insurance companies to go to for insurance for a Minor Convertable that has a Marina 1275cc engine, Sierra 5 speed gearbox, disc brakes and servo and upgraded suspension fitted. I know the cheapest is not always the best, so would like some advice before delving into the insurance websites. Is the insurance company recommended by MMOC good? Thanks in anticipation, Ian

The upgrades you have fitted are pretty standard ones for a Morris Minor. David Youngs from FJ is a poster on this site.

But do compare with others - since FJ are not always the lowest cost. RH Insurance are used by many - and Lancaster I believe are happy with reasonably modified cars too.

this year ,it can change every year ,I found the best service and value for money (not the cheapest) was Peter James

Yes they insure classic cars and motorbikes.I have the moggie and from today my '57 lambretta,both with agreed value.also for the bike they saved my £12 on my other company (Lexham) and £20 ish on the moggie.Very good customer service ,and I'm not saying this 'cause they are based in Brum.

As above RH are very good but dont like many mods other then things like say alloys.... lancaster are good and performance direct i think is your best bet as they insure modified and custom cars without much bother or need for a enginers report. some companys will want that and also a copy of the v5 to make sure any engine increase is recorded ... hope this helps....

Tried Performance Direct on their website and was transferred to Quotezone. They had a pretty comprehensive list of mods to go through and tick and Lancaster came up the best at £99.50 for full comprehensive 5000 miles usage a year and £250 excess.

Well the list on quotezone of mods was pretty comprehensive but I was a bit aprehensive of the way the questions were asked. Ticking boxes regarding questions like, 'Is there a bigger engine fitted'. No way to say how big. A 1275cc engine is a lot less than say a V8 some people fit. So I was not too comfortable with the questions.

Anyway a list came up and the prices went from £99.50 to £10000!!! per year Obviously this company is not interested.

I as said Lancaster was the cheapest so I clicked on their quote want to know more button and noticed that no mods were indicated.

So obviously phoning the companies and talking to someone who can be made aware of all the mods is the best way.

I am working in the Far East just now, in lovely sunshine and do not get back to Blighty till the 5th. March. My Morris wil not be ready from Charles Ware till the end of March so that gives me plenty of time to phone round the insurance companies.

I am 59 years old with no points on my licence and live in Rural Argyll, a low crime area. Also only want to have say 5000 miles a year on the policy, although I do not think I will do anything like that. So I would expect to pay somewhere between £100 and £200 pounds per year for full comp.

We shall see. What do some of you guys pay per year for a 1275cc engined, 5 speed gearbox Morris?
