Tappet chest breather

Hi folks,

Just been cleaning the covers for the tappet chest on the van engine ready for fitting to the recon. The cover with the breather pipe has a very narrow slit and almost looks like its been squashed, so I pulled one off a spare engine. This one has the pipe going all the way through, so probably from a different age engine?
Heres a picture, the one on the left is what came off the 1098 engine Im rebuilding, on the right is from a spare 1098 engine.

Any help would be great.
Cheers.[frame]Image[/frame]
Also the dimples on the front of each cover are different.

I think that the "2 Rump Steak meals for £15!" offer is so far out of date now that they'll never accept the advert.

Hope that helps!

Either will be fine - as long as the pipe is clear. Later ones use a rather better rubber seal, but the early cork seal is ok too - just don't overtighten the bolt - which is what collapses the cover!

Thanks for that, I did wonder if covers had been fitted from another A series engine (mini) thought it might rub on the push rods and make a mess of the nice new engine.

Up to date steak for two vouchers are in the post tomorrow! Only valid at Lands end Cornwall.

given a choice I'd use the one with a baffle plate, but not sure if it would make much difference compared to the straight through hole.
