The basic colour coded diagram is at the top of the ELECTRICAL section - print it out and laminate it. What do you need to know?? The wiring is extremely basic - not hard to follow! Many variations in the Workshop Manual of course - but they are much harder to follow.

Welcome to the forum. Where are you? Often someone local will offer assistance.
As BMC says that schematic is as basic as you can get, but the ignition switch and indicators will be different on your car. There are online workshop manuals for free download that will give you wiring diagrams.
As for an idiots guide, just remember the colours can help you to break down the circuits into smaller manageable parts.
Any wire with brown means always live unfused, (pull starter, control box)
with purple is always live but fused (interior lights, horns)
Yellow is charging system (dynamo, control box)
white is live when the ignition is on but unfused (ignition, fuel pump)
green is live when the ignition is on but fused (gauges, indicators, brakelights,heater,wipers)
blue is headlights, unfused,
and any red is other lights unfused.
Blacks are earth
There are a couple of exceptions (before people start queuing up to contradict me)

Anything with a black tracer is switched earth

Hi,
I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to do the idiots guide, as I, for one, will find it very useful when I finally get round to renewing my wiring.
It's on the 'to do' list.................... along with a few other items...........
One thing that has struck me since I first bought my car is the almost complete lack of fuses, there are originally (as you already know) just two that cover the whole car!
I've added a couple of in line ones for electrical items that I've installed but it's definitely something I shall revisit when I come to renew the lot.

Thanks for your input, but I sourced a simplified coloured diagram------------much easier than the manuals to follow so far.
Ripped out old loom which had lot different coloured sectionsof wiring (repairs etc) about 2 years ago and memory was letting me down.Cheers guys.
