Just read you can twist the whole distributor to get good running with the engine running - is that not dangerous, ie you slip and twist too much??

Can you get the car to pink whilst stationary by advancing too far?

hi
Just undo the clamp until you can just move it slowly with one hand ,steady yourself with the other hand ,turn dizzy until tick over( when hot) ,rises to a peak, then you will be about right.
I'm fairly sure it's very difficult to get it to pink when stationary with out revving the *alls out of the engine, good luck

Engine only pinks when working hard - ie up a hill in highish gear with foot well into the floor.

Id have thought that since pinking is, I thought, too far advanced timing that it would do it at any speed no?

You might get a single pink by just over advancing at low speed but I doubt it.
You can hear it sometimes on a modern car if the driver tries to pull away in 3rd, a big nasty rattle before the computer catches up and retards the ignition.
