Mechanical advance, how many degrees of rotation?

Hello all. I'm cleaning up my spare distributor, a 25D4, which is 'crunchy' as it seems filled with sand and grit! So, I intend to take it full apart clean. Two questions about this:

Firstly, it seems at the moment that the mechanical advance moves very little - should it EASILY move? Also how many degrees of movement counter clockwise should it have as its maximum? Can't seem to find that in my book...

Secondly, what product should I clean this with - I have carburettor cleaner, the sort you spray into the carb when running - should I use that? Or petrol? Or paraffin oil or what?

Thank you.

It should move smoothly, the flat spring gives some friction. The cam should have something like 13/15 degrees stamped on the foot. Most solvents will clean the body up.
