my boot is leaking, the wooden planks are damp and a tool bag id left in there is wet, the seal is old and messy so thought id get a new one. my questions are
1. where does the boot seal supposed to fit, is it (as in the diagram) at point A, in other words along the outer edge between the actual edge and the raised lif an inch or two in, OR should it go onto of the ridge, like the area marked B.
2. What glue do I use? just contact adheive.

Depends what age car you have - early 1000 boot seals went around a flange on the bodywork, later was glued, I assume using evo stik or similar to the area marked A on your diagram

Jane
Have you already elimated that it's not the rear window seal that's leaking ? Either main cause or contributory ?

Another possibility ( sorry to muddy the waters!) is the rubber seals under the boot hinges on both body and bootlid, methinks?

No, its definitely coming in from the seal, but my seal is flat and cracked. at the moment it sits on point a, nestled against the inner ridge, it is a 1971 saloon. So still - no conclusive answer

Does it fit ON the ridge or by the side of it on the edge? Confusing...

The early ones sit on the Frame of the car,but the later ones just sit in the recess on the lid,you can't fit them wrongly the ' one I just fitted was self adhesive and its not realy possible to fit it anywhere else but in the recess,it just won't go anywhere else.Once fitted the edge of the frame of the car sits up into the centre of the recess, thereby hitting the centre of the seal closing it off.
