One oil light shows when there is dangerously low oil pressure - the other shows when the oil filter is blocked. NEITHER light should be on when the engine is running. If an orange light comes on when you are driving - stop the engine immediately.

You have an earlier speedometer which only has 3 lights. The oil light indicates low oil pressure and should only come on when the ignition is on and the engine is not running, it should go out as soon as you start the engine.

Ignition off = all lights off.
Ignition on, engine not running:
red light = no charge warning
amber light = low oil pressure warning
Ignition on, engine running - both red and amber should go out.

Note that over the years, the lights sometimes get swapped around. to check this, find the wire connected to the oil pressure switch (right hand side of engine, above and behind distributor). Remove the wire and ground it to the engine. Ignition on, light will come on. Take wire away from engine, light will go off.

Assuming oil level is OK (using the dipstick) then if the oil pressure light comes on when the engine is running, stop the engine, fit a new oil pressure warning light switch, and check again. If light remains on, then engine needs attention.

The blue light is, of course, the high beam warning light, and operates whenever the head lights are on and on high beam.

No -don't worry about the filter - just change it every year. If your GREEN light comes on when driving - switch off the engine immediately to save it from seizing up. It may flicker when the engine is hot and idling - that's ok - but it should go out as soon as you rev up. Always keep the oil level right up at the MAX mark.

If you wish.....but really when the light comes on - it's already too late. The pressure has dropped to ~ 5psi and the bearings are already wrecked. In my rally car I had a 15/20 psi switch fitted - and a large (50mm) orange light.. Still not ideal but I couldn't find a higher pressure switch at the time.

With the earlier speedo and green light, looking at my earlier post, simply replace "amber" with "green".

The blocked filter warning light was used for only a relatively short time on the later cars. It requires a repalcement filter head with the switch built in. To find one in working order is difficult as they are very rare (that's put the price up on E-bay ). Given that the filter should be changed annually or every 6,000 miles with the oil, then the filter should never get blocked, and so the light is superfluous.
