803 Engine

I have an 1954 minor i think it has the 803 engine, i have been offered a 948 my question is would this engine fit and would it pick up with the existing gearbox

Yes! It fits straight in. Don't scrap the old 803 engine - some people like them

Thanks for letting me know, the 803 starts off the button but i have a feeling the water pump is on its way out, i took out the thermostat to see if the circulation was any better but even with the heater valve open the water only trickles out of it when i remove the pipe when the engine is running and the heaters just blow cold air, do you have any idea what the problem could be

You must have a stat in to get any circulation - the 803 pump is not common and therefor expensive. But hardly a reason to swap the whole engine - although could be a solution for winter time.......

i have just bought a stat off ebay, ill give the engine a flush before fitting it worth a try

The 803 is undoubtedly the worst ever engine of the whole Minor range, but in spite of that it is oddly likeable. As Roy says please don't scrap it - there are still a few fans out there.

Give the heater a good flush - and check the valve is opening up fully. Hope you bought an 88 degree stat !

Now thats a good point 88 degree ? i just checked but theres nothing in the listing saying 88 degree, heres the item number 160391791908
