Hi Folks,
I've been doing some more tinkering with my 1956 Series II Traveller. and spotted a code number stamped into the left-hand-side vertical wooden door "frame" (inside the car) and it is M BB 34953 (spaced as shown).
I cannot see stampings in any other wooden members.
Anyone know what it is?
Also, this Traveller's headlining is solid (some form of hard/fibre board) with a glued on paper (?) surface material.
Was this normal for older Traveller's. Thanks, in advance, for any information.

Sounds like a home-made headlining to me !

Up until April '57 traveller headlining was rexine covered board. Sounds like this is what you have - if you post up a photo someone on here will be able to confirm.

Yes it is - early Travellers had a rexine headlining which was attached to thin plywood/hardboard. The very early S2's had a three piece headlining in the front with two smaller side pieces and one larger central piece. Try and keep it if it's not too damaged photo would be good too

Hello BMC, thanks for your response - the headlining in the "cab" area is made up of three sections[frame][/frame]
Two strips at each of the door sides and then a covering central strip, in the middle (like what you would do with felt covering for a shed roof, but inside out).
The area under the aluminium main roof is one piece[frame][/frame]
and is quite a large item - home made? A bit ellaborate as it has been matched to the curve of the roof.
The courtesey light unit screws into a wooden "frame" which seems to be glued to the back of the solid headlining.
Shall I move the "roof" question to another topic (or rename the exiting one)?
Any views on the ID number in the wood?

I would much rather have this in my car that the other material headlining!!! This looks fab!

On the subject of Rexine covering onto board, one of my early Xmas presents has been a 1950's Brexton Picnic case with Bandalasta sandwich boxes, cups and saucers etc. The eBay item I bought, for spares, to go with the main case, is obviuosly made in a similar fashion to my Traveller's headlining - see image below (taken a few moments ago)[frame][/frame]
It also seems to be the same colour - yippee, I'll have some matching "kit" to display at next year's special rallies.
The bakelite Bandalasta items are a pale green, which will go with the (current) Almond Green of the car.
However, I will need to return it to its original Empire Green, as some time.

Hi there,
I have just read your post, my series 2 traveller has three pieces of covered shaped hardboard in the front with grey painted covering glued to it. The rear section is one piece of plywood with the same covering, as for the stamp to the rear post, mine has the same letters, but different numbers! See photo,
If you need some more info let me know as mine is a very similar car to yours!

Phil, I will certainly need more info. At present I'm still desparately trying to fix my home desktop PC. I have all my data off, but am still trying to get it booting up with the original HDD as I cannot lift "intstalled" programs and if I fail in this, I will have to re-install all my bought (and downloaded) software. This (and my destroyed back fence) are having to take priority over my lovely Moggy (not yet named). Regards, George.

This hasn't been possible since the days of DOS really.
Windows programs put files in various places and entries in the registry when they are installed.

If you have another PC or laptop to use I'd download this iso file and create a CD from it.

You can then use it to boot the PC reliably and get off any stuff you want onto a USB or other drive.

MarkyB, thanks for that. I already have Imaging software and paid-for Partition (& File) Recovery s/w. I did have an older smaller HDD with a bootable copy of XP SP2. This has been cloned onto a bigger HDD and I have already saved all my data (lost just a bit of my Pinnacle Studio video projects). Problem is that this version of XP needs loads of updates (and the SP3 pack), plus all the .NET components required by a load of my other software.
I might have to bite the bullet and build another PC and buy Windows 7 Pro (not goinf to touch Windows 8 with a barge-pole).
I've already got costings for motherboard/processor/memory packages etc. - but this is off-topic now, however, I'll post up my PC results. Thanks, George.

I'd try my luck imaging your working PC if you have the software to do it.
It will give a better result if the software will do it from a bad drive.
If it's Ghost there are command line switches to make it ignore bad sectors and carry on.

Well I got my original Hard Disc booting up, with all the user accounts present, and all the installed software. The problem was that all the drivers had disappeared, including the ones for the NIC.
I tried going for another Windows XP-pro SP3 repair and spent ages putting in all the original drivers (from the NVIDIA CD I managed to find) only to be thwarted at the last moment as the keyboard wasn't recognised, as an input device, to enter the Volume Serial Number. Tried reverting to a PS2 keyboard - no joy as it took out the PS2 mouse as well - 3 attempts were made with different configurations of hardware - thanks Bill!
I have kept this cloned drive for a possible future attempt at getting Bill Gates' fatware systems repaired as I don't like to quit.
I've ended up rebuilding around the early SP2 installation, having cloned to larger drives and spending about a week doing Microsoft updates, including the SP3 pack, and re-installing all my purchased and downloaded software.
I'm now doing a regular "backup" by using Acronis Disc Imaging s/w to make complete copies but noticed, this morning, that the program states "MBR sector incorrect" - this is a very fleeting notification and can be very easily missed.
I'm currently using the rebuilt PC, but will need to buy a replacement PC with a Windows 7 Pro installation - not touching the "social networking and gaming" based Windows 8. Shame my purchased software won't work in a Linux environment.

If you are considering a new PC you'll need to be quick to get win 7 on it.
As you have plenty of patience you could try running your windows programs using WINE, a windows environment the runs in Linux.
Otherwise there is a vast amount of open source software available to cater to your software needs.
