I have bought a new carpet set for my morris off ebay, but was wondering should i use underlay as well? It seems that if I use underlay itll be difficult to screw the carpet clips down.

Also should I use carpet clips? It seems silly to make MORE holes in the floor lol!

If I do, WHERE should I place the screws?

Did they have screws fitted to the carpets when new??

What carpet clips??! Carpets should NOT be screwed down!

Underlay makes a warmer and quieter car.

On my traveller there are 16 carpet clips, four in each 'bay' of the floor. Each stud is screwed through the floor with a small self tapping screw and is set to the correct height with millboard washers. The underfelt has holes corresponding with the studs about 1" diameter and the carpet has rings pressed through the carpet securing the poppers on the underside.

I think this was the standard BMC arrangement as my MG has the same set up.

I would advise against it - carpets keep themselves down and the quick release (i.e. no fastenings) are handy.

On my car the studs are still attached to the floor but as the carpets have been replaced the sockets are not attached to the carpets.
if you want to keep the car original then you could use them, plus they do stop the carpet from riding up.

Don't put underlay if rain water get in, it will soak it up like a sponge and be very hard to dry out.

Mixed advice, hmnn... since there are no holes I'll not use any at the moment, decided to use double sided stick backed velcro instead
