hole in Boot floor

Hi, I have spent most of today checking over everything for the MOT tomorrow. Everything is fine apart from a hole about half an inch in diameter in the center of the boot floor. The hole is not visible from the inside of the boot as it is under the box section in the center of the boot floor.
Will this result in a failure of MOT
Thanks folks
Kyle Evans

Depends on your MOT man.
Probably not as it isn't structural, and not near to any suspension components..

Thanks, He is a very old school chap and has great sympathy for classic cars. Hopefully this will help a little
Thanks again

I don't know much about the saloon body but if it's in the centre and a clean 1/2inch in diameter, it might be there as a drain hole of sorts?

Thanks for your post but it is certainly a rust hole
Kyle
I have been told that it will be OK if it is more than 6 inches from the suspension
But I will be cutting and repairing at the weekend

I was goining to say just repair the hole but you beat me too it. I am sure you wont need reminding of the dangers of welding near the fuel tank.

make it into a drain hole make it round and rust free and stick a rubber grommet into it.

It passed the MOT with this as an advisory.
Few, am I glad that is over with. It is worse than going to the Dentist!
Thanks for your comments folks

The critical distance is 300mm - a lot more than 6" Just put a grommet in it......

if he is a modern mot man. chances are he wont know his way around the car anyway. may even not know what make it is. if he is old school and classic friendly he will see its not structural and either point it out to you with a wink or put it on an advisory if he feels official. no worries really. good luck
