The saga continues,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,After splitting a second windscreen rubber on my `52 MM(tearing the outer seal with the string)while trying to fit it,I am on the verge of giving up!So this is a request to ask if there is a member in the Romford,Essex area who has experience of fitting the split screen,who would be willing and able to assist me in fitting it.I would obviously pay for your time and trouble(lot`s,I am sure).I am in Rainham.

Make sure you use plenty lubricant and don't use thin string as you will tear things. You'd have been cheaper to get a professional window fitter in at the start rather than damage window rubbers. I've just had mine fitted yesterday - yes they were a tight fit, but with me and a friend helping we got them in in a reasonable time.
I've done them myself in the past, hence my decision to employ someone this time

The no string,single handed method.......... Put non setting sealant in rubber,fit rubber to car,fit one glass,from outside, then put straps round the glass (Two ,will do, but use three if you want to spread the load ) and the window frame,tighten up the straps progressively untill you can fit the other glass. Do the same to this side. Leave overnight,then give both straps another tweek or two, leaving time for the glasses to be drawn outwards into the rubbers,untill there is enough gap to fit the central rubber from inside, and outer strip.Slip the rubber into the gap and slide the straps out(Lubrication helps here), Pull the straps from outside which holds the central rubber up against the glasses and it stays in place,You will find that the glass and rubbers stay in place and you can then fit the outer.You can then mess about fitting the finisher,taking as long as you like,usually about three weeks Done mine twice like this never had a problem. GOOD LUCK

The glass fitter I used had 2 suction devices which he pulled on to give the centre gap. Glass was fitted to rubber then lower edge of rubber lip engaged followed by top. The lip on current seals really could do with being bigger, but it all went in with plenty of non setting sealant.
I wouldn't have liked straps round my window pillars after my bare metal paint job .
