Historic Vehicle Road Tax and pre-1960 no MOT

Folks,
My 1956 Series II Traveller is ready to go back on the road. I thought that I would see what happens with the DVLA online system in changing its status from SORN to Taxed.
It has no current MOT (last MOT and pass was Dec 2007), but is Insured. The electronic system accepted all the necessary electronic checks and has issued me with a NIL cost Tax Disc (will be with me in 5 days time, apparently).
The first thing that I will be doing is booking an appointment at my nearest MOT station, for them to prove to me that I have performed all the necessary work to a safe standard (which, thankfully, wasn't a lot) and that I haven't missed anything. Will post updates later.
(corrected spelling of "vehicle")

I would ask them to do a NON MOT - ie do all the checks as normal, but without logging on the computer - just in case they find a problem or two, which would then be logged against the car.

It just demonstrates that any old heap of junk (not your car), can be legally put back on the road
