Hello all,

I have had my Minor for 6 months now and am really loving it. One thing does worry me, though, now we are heading into winter. Does anyone else find it really difficult this time of year to drive without a heated rear window? The last few weeks the rear window has been really steamed up and it's a bit disconcerting when I can barely see the car behind. I see that it's possible to get a heated rear window fitted. My Minor is a 1969 saloon.

Any views?

See if you can get some cling film to stick to it, that should keep it clear inside.

You could try "Mist Reppellant" from halfords. Not tried it myself but the reviewers rate it. Its a cheaper alternative as fitting heated screens may mean uprating your battery and changing to a alternator to cope with the added load.

The heated screens (front and rear) are absolutely superb for winter driving, a real safety aid for every day drivers. On another thread about front screens, someone commented how the distribution between comments seemed to be that the those without the screens were doomsayers about batteries and things, whereas those who fitted them wouldn't be without them

I have a heated screen fitted to my blue minor and still have an dynamo, I am quite careful that I dont use the heated screen at the same time as the wipers or heater blower motor is on to preserve the battery. Also as mentioned before I used rainex on the inside and outside of my glass, just DONT put it on the inside of the windscreen as it a pain, but the sides and rear screen do clear more quickly. Also as Mike says opening the quarter light or keeping the drivers window down even as little as 1/4 inch does help circuliate the air and reduce moisture.

You will of course have to buy good warm gloves for the frosty mornings so your fingers dont stick to the wheel when its cold, the flat cap is optional......

Make sure the windows you need to see out of are nice and clean, dirt attracts moisture.

There is a spray you can buy for motorcycele visors that is supposed to work

Is your Moggie a four door? I always open the offside rear door window a few inches on mine, it clears the back window a treat!

the old way was to get it dry and rub the inside with a cut potatoe used to work quite well try it and see.

I have considered a new heated screen but that means fitting a new seal mind you it needs a new one anyway!

mmmm steamed up windows can be a problem ! this is my sons James car - passed his test 9 days ago and them reversed into a bollard in a super market car park - at least no other cars involved !!

Lee (irmscher) do you have a rear bumper and valance you can sell me !!!!???

cars off the road - the boot lid was mint - oh well a Citroen Saxo would have broken in half !!

If anyone has a rear valance and bumper they can sell that would be appreciated - To be fair to James he has paid for the car with his own money from a weekend job washing up at a pub - and I'm sure we've all had a "little bump"........
