My daughter went off roading accidentally the other night after doing a bit of impromtu ice skating in her Moggie on a winding lane in The New Forest. She landed sideways with such force the both nearside tyres parted from the wheel rims. On closer inspection I can see the the downward force was also great as the bottom suspension arm now has a dent in it as well as the lower lip of the inner wing -struck by the rising track rod. Top of the suspension also connected with the underside of the inner wing (not sure if there was a bump stop there - if there was, it's gone now).

We bought the car with an anti roll bar already fitted - possibly a Mr Grumpy's one???. Anyway, it must have taken quite a jolt as the bush has been pushed right out of the retaining socket. Not quite sure how I'm going to get it back into place - will probably attempt washing up liquid and hammer using a deep socket as a punch.

My daughter really thought the car was going to roll over and I wonder if the anti roll bar prevented this.

Annoyingly I decided to leave the car as it was well clear of the road, and pick it up the following morning. BAD IDEA! Someone else slipped on the same ice and smashed straight into the Moggie - so now I'll need to also fix front wing (fibreglass), front grill panel and a broken hockey stick! Oh, and the other car did a runner and the police have no report of this second accident even though it left a considerable amount of debris, broken windscreen, plastic spoiler etc.

Probably not worth an insurance claim, we'd probably end up worse off in the long term.

Hope your daughter got out without an harm done, everything else can be fixed.

Yes, thankfully she was fine. She did end up in the passenger seat though (not sure how that happened - maybe inertia belt doesn't work sideways?).

At least daughter and car are relatively unscathed.

I'm not sure anti roll bars prevent cars from rolling over but we're all glad yr girls OK
Blame the horses

Anti-roll bars are designed to provide roll resistance in the independent suspension and reduce body roll
not to prevent a crash and subsequent 'rollover' situation
great that your daughter is okay
and try and get her back into driving as soon as possible
the car can be repaired/replaced

Thank you one and all for your kind thoughts and wishes. Hetty is absolutely fine, just a bit shaken at the time and then very upset about Marmaduke's battle scars. Driver of the second car has been identified as a locakl taxi driver and with a bit of luck might at least get a bit of an apology for not letting us know.

Not sure if I can sucessfully rescue the wing as it's very crushed around the headlight. Headlight bowl is bent - but should be able to bash that back into shape as well as the front apron. At least I'll get the chance to find a better colour match for the wing!

Thanks, she's just desperate to get back behind the wheel. She loves that car so much - she even cleaned it (once!).

I think there were a pair of fiberglass wings in the for sale section of this site recently -- might be worth a look, but obviously will need spraying. Front panel appears to be savable, and hockey sticks are easily replaced.

It's a sobering reminder to us all of the dangers of the weather this time of year!
