Hi all,

Can anyone advise please? I have got to renew lower front trunnions am I correct in saying? the back plate has to be removed to unscrew the trunnion if so can anyone recommend what type of hub puller required, any advise much appreciated

No hub puller - just slides off. If tight - bolt the wheel on and wiggle it. Yes backplate off - 4 bolts. Be sure to take the pin out before trying to unscrew the trunnion!!!

Make sure that the chassis is supported on axle stands and the load off the torsion bar is taken on a jack on the end of the lower suspension arm

Forgot to say it's been a full strip down so all parts are off the car, just started to rebuild and found play in the lower trunnions so if no puller required on the hub? levers behind the hub to slide off? as I can't get the wheel on to help removal?

Any old hub puller will do. I've had some slide off as bmcecosse says, but some need a bit more persuasion.

If you're canny, you can make something to pull it off. A strong strip across two opposing wheel studs, and a bolt down the centre to push onto the stub axle.

Why can't you put the wheel on? But yes - tyre levers pivoting on the brake cylinders - gently lever it off. But mine have always just pulled off by hand.

2 claw hammers hooked in behind always works for me!

One more Q as there is no engine/gearbox in the car so not much weight and to get load back on the torsion bar jacking up on the lower suspension arm the car is coming up of the axle stand before getting in line with shocker mount, any idea how to get round this prop? (apart from getting the wife to sit in the engine bay for move weight don't worry she's not reading this )

I've used a couple of plastic dustbins ( I use for garden rubbish ) filled with water, to introduce some " weight ".Buckets tend to take up too much space.Old plastic kitchen waste bins.Bags of compost, basically a bit of lateral thinking and whatever you have lying around.Otherwise wait until you have the engine back in.

My wife did let me have a few words of her own, when I suggested I needed some ballast, so beware.I think my ears have stopped ringing now !!

You could do something with a ratchet strap - but best bet is weight - fat mates??
