Trying to remove a universal joint in the prop. All four circlips snapped as I got the (proper) pliers on them.

Any ideas how's to get them out? Ive never had this happen before!

I had a case where one was so badly rusted that the only way to remove it was to carefully and very accurately drill a 2mm hole on the outside and drift it inwards to get a screwdriver behind it to lever it out. A last resort as I was having the propshaft re-balanced anyway.

if its as bad as declans, i found out if you heat it cherry red it will bend out bit by bit done a few wheel bearings like this cause the clip was rusted in, but thats only provided if you have gas bottles.

Sounds like its going to have to be done the annoying way.

I can heat them up alright, but will getting the prop that hot not damage it?

I wouldn't want to get it too hot and providing you let it cool down naturally I'd say it'll be ok. Cherry red--ott.

First give the yokes a tap with a hammer.

Push the uj cap in as far as it will go in a vice with a socket etc. There will always be a bit of play. Tap the yoke when pushing the cap as the yoke can bend. Tapping will make it spring back.

Now try to tap the circlip so it is loose. You may be able to pull it out.

If all else fails you will have to cut the cross out. A gas axe is good for cutting!

Luckily a friend is giving me a spare prop. I'll change the UJs at leisure and swap the props over once completed. The hardest things is always needing to end up with a drivable car at the end of a day's work.

Thanks for all the tips.

To,

I've got a Suzuki fz50, but its not really that practical (unlike the minor!).
