door lock mechanism

Hello all
I’m trying to figure out if the mechanism behind the internal door handle has a broken spring or not? The "S" shaped piece of metal on the right hand side of the attached photo would appear to be a spring, but is attached to nothing. Could anyone confirm if this is a spring that has broken? Both doors are the same.
Many thanks in advance

Yes, that's broken - as are 95% of the ones that I have seen. I have not been able to source replacements (cue for someone to pop up and say "get them from..."). The purpose of the spring is to stop the handle moving around slightly. With an intact spring the handle rests in a positive "click" position rather than moving loosely back and forwards before taking up the slack in the mechanism. Everything works OK without the spring, just with a potential to rattle.

Many thanks for your reply. Might try to make one if not just live with it.

Hi, I have the same problem. Any chance of a sketch showing the correct shape and positioning?

Ah! I think I have worked out that it is an 'M' shape with feet that fit the small slots in the mech. and the centre of the 'M' in the indent in the plate. Now I just have to make a couple......!

Interesting, always wondered why the handle flopped around, be interesting to know what you make.

I shall have to whip one out and have a look, curious.
