Front shock absorber - oil

Hi,
Further to my recent topic about my front rebound check strap, I also notice that the sealing bush between the shock absorber arm and body (passenger side only - so far) has worn though causing the oil inside to leak out, aside from regularly topping it up until I can effect a more permanent fix, is there a thicker oil that I could use that wouldn't leak out so rapidly?
Blasted nuisance as both of these are reconditioned exchange units that I fitted only a few months back!
Many thanks,
Mike.

Have you checked that the oil has come out or are you assuming it has?
You can put thicker oil in even ep90 at an extreme push.

Send it back! It's not going to seal up with thicker oil. The bushes supporting the top arm must be worn to tear out the seal like that!

Hi,
It was empty when I checked it upon discovering this (Drivers side was full), plus there was fresh oil on the engine bay floor directly under it.

Send it back! It's not going to seal up with thicker oil. The bushes supporting the top arm must be worn to tear out the seal like that!
Do you think I should dig out the receipt then? Their site doesn't mention any kind of warranty period for these units.
Thanks.
Mike.

DEMAND a replacement! A year would be normal - surely. It's a safety critical item - threaten them with Trading Standards if they don't immediately cough up.

I need to replace my front drivers side damper. Trouble is I too have heard that the recon ones are just filled with new oil and sent back out again, so I am reluctant to change it for a recon one.

In the meantime all I can do is just keep it topped up, unless someone has a good one they want to part with :D

Anything you buy should be of merchantable quality, working in other words!
Also it does nobody any favors to keep quiet about it, they will lose custom and keep buying rubbish from their supplier.

I shall dig out my receipt from my history file then.
Thanks,
Mike.

Even if you have not got a receipt all the supliers keep records of what you have bought from them

I have dug out my receipt and spoken to the supplier, explaining the problem, they agreed straight away to replace it FOC.
So as soon as I get this I will fit it................. hopefully it will last a little longer than the last one did.........
Thanks for your advice.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Quite right too!
Hopefully they will "have a word" with their supplier too.

Hi,
This has now been replaced, along with my home made replacement for my front lower rebound check, see other post. :P
If this one fails in record time I won't be very happy....................
If it does I will let you know via this post.
So I'm hoping that this is my last entry on this post then......... :-?
Best wishes,
Mike.
