Does anybody use this nowadays? I'm thinking of getting one for the car.

Hands free phone and free local calls seems to have made somewhat redundant.

Do you know anyone else with a CB or you could be talking to yourself.
Does the law about mobile phones apply to CBs?

I know one or two people with CB but will have it tuned into channel 19 which I understand is the highway channel. Should be good for a laugh anyway.

As far as I'm aware it's perfectly legal to use CB whilst driving - the police do it in the patrol cars.

Learning the lingo will be interesting.

As with phone - you must have a hands=free kit to use it while moving.......

Might be useful for club rallies when traveling cross-country in convoy if nothing else, provided the other cars have it.

Years ago in Pateley Bridge I saw a lot of Minors with those long aerials I think you must have for CB.

You may get better results investigating a novice amateur radio licence through your local radio club.

Maybe, but I'm not really into it - someone gave me one for the car so might wire it in.

They are still useful if a few of you are out for a run. Ive always had them in my Landrovers. Just bought one from these, great service..

You may want to scrounge an S.W.R. (standing wave ratio)meter to tune in the antenna.

I understood it was still legal to use a handheld radio transmitter/reciever when the mobile ban came in. I assumed it got the exemption for the emergency services and as so few private indivduals use radios it didn't matter.
I used to use one a lot in the Land Rover for club greenlane trips and itw as very good for a group to keep in contact, other than struggling to hear it over a rattling diesel in a series 1 Landy, but I would imagine it'd work well in a Minor for group runs etc...

Exactly right. The ban on using mobile phones when driving does not affect CB radio use. They are very handy on a run out with others. If there are only a couple of you, PMR446 radios are just as useful.
