Inaccurate chasis number query

Post by BazW »

I'm new to classic cars and would be greatful for some help please.

I have just purchased a Morris Traverler FOT 153K and noticed that the car number plate states MAW51279079F however the original documents from 1970 state the car number is MAW5129079F (Missing digit 7), so the car has an extra digit. Can anyone help in how to get this discrepency rectified?

The car number on the plate will be correct and the registration document needs to be changed by DVLA (see address below).
Also the Year of Manufacture is probably wrong as Traveller production was discontinued in April 1971 at car number 1294082.

The vehicle details for FOT 153K are:
Date of Liability 01 11 2013
Date of First Registration 07 04 1972
Year of Manufacture 1972
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1098cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour WHITE
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available
This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate
Please be aware that if the vehicle has recently been relicensed or a SORN declared, these details may not yet be updated on the vehicle record.
If you think that the details on the vehicle record are incorrect please write to:
VCS
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1BA
Please include the incorrect V5C Registration Certificate for amendment.

The chassis number should also be stamped on the engine compartment bulkhead adjacent to the accelerator cable.
It is common for the DVLA to make copying mistakes, the correct chassis number should read MAW5/1279079. Do not send off original documents, you will not get them back, always send photocopies

Engine nos. (48044?) suggests late '70 build date(?) - why stated as '72?

Would make 1279079 correct.

Chassis nos. stamped into o/s cab floor pan.

Will need body nos. to confirm.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
