A quick hello from Manchester

I thought I'd better say 'hi' and 'thanks' as I signed up a few weeks ago and have been taking advantage of all the wise words on here ever since. Although I've been a member of the MMOC since the late '90s when I bought the car I've never siged up to the web site until recently. My car? It's a 1962 rose taupe 2 door with red duotone interior that I bought 15 years ago with some spare cash from a university summer job. Since then, I've only covered 4000 miles as the car has been in storage on and off until 8 years ago when it went away until now. I finally dragged it out and shipped it off to Millennium in Manchester for a lot of welding, brakes and suspension work and now it's back on the road... until I put it back in storage next week for the winter!

I want to keep the car fairly original, with the exception of a radio and seat belts, and just enjoy it. The engine is 948 with a 1098 box and I doubt I'll change that. My plan is to freshen up the car as needed, starting with sound deadening and carpets, clean/repair the seats, repair some of the questionable wiring then tidy up the body but we'll see!

Lovely moggie you have there and its great to know it is almost exactly the same as mine! Except for the interior which mine is singletone tartan red. With regards to the engine, in my opinion, if it aint broke dont fix it. May I ask how much your work in manchester cost?

Thanks Woosh! The work on the car came to around £2800 inc. VAT and I had (amongst other things) new inner & outer sills, new boot floor, box sections, both chassis legs replaced and A & B post and inner wing repaired. New braking system, suspension strip & new bushes, new fuel line, full service, carb & dizzy overhaul and a lot of other bits & bobs like bump stops, exhaust hangers.....

I could have had patch work repairs to get it through the MOT but I want to keep the car for a while yet so I took the plunge and went for the more expensive option.

Now I'm considering a car restoration course for when the next round of work is needed

I've seen the pictures of your car - that should keep you busy!
