Name your price
Someone mentioned prices of genuine Mk1 cooper s cars recently, which shocked me, so I checked it out on ebay. Of course the price may not be realized but I found 3 at £29,000! Won't be long before our vans and pick-ups reach 20k.

Re: Name your price
Increased price means more attractive to thieves, and out of reach for proper enthusiasts.

Re: Name your price
The question to anyone who complains about prices being achieved in a free market is surely:
"What would you like to see done about it?" State control of second-hand car prices? State control of all sales of goods and services?
On the whole, people won't sell anything for less than they can get for it in the circumstances at the time, whether it's a car or their labour to their employer. Do we really want all the trappings of communism?

The fact is, if a person with one of these vehicles sees what they are possibly selling for, not many would think of Mr Average and sell for less. If he did then Mr Average would no doubt rub his hands together and resell for the going rate!! We're all guilty!jagnut66 wrote:Great, let push everything out of Mr. Averages reach!![]()

Re: Name your price
I often wonder what becomes of these 20k cars. Who are they bought by and when are they used?

To quote George Orwell (or mis-quote) 'all pigs are equal but some pigs are more equal than others'.On the whole, people won't sell anything for less than they can get for it in the circumstances at the time, whether it's a car or their labour to their employer. Do we really want all the trappings of communism?
No of course no one in their right mind would advocate communism but then we shouldn't encourage greed for it's own sake either!
I have spent allot of time and money on my car, but I will not expecting to pass this onto anyone who buys it in the future, or for them to pay silly money for it either! I have made my own choices because of my own personal enthusiasm.
I guess, from your comment, I am in a minority in this.
But I think we have had an article on the greedy opportunistic overpricing of classic cars in the past on here, so perhaps I should give up. I have made my point and stand by it.

Re: Name your price
I know of a very original early Cooper S which is driven about badged up as a Mini 850 - simply to deter unwanted 'interest' in it.....

Re: Name your price
It looks like I'm the only one who thinks £20k for a really good van is worth it due to the extreme rarity and massive popularity
I sold my tuned FS1E for £50 in local paper as it was getting very dusty in the garage...
However 12 years later LAY815P is still on the road
that makes me happier than any £££s

Re: Name your price
I don't suppose you're alone Ray. If you want something bad enough you'll pay what it takes. It's probably a vehicle that won't be used otherwise the value could easily decrease. In the light of these revelations I've done a bit a thinking about stuff I've owned in the past but come to the realization that in days gone by, a vehicle was sold to finance and make room for the next. There was no chance of collecting them for the hell of it, or an investment, although the latter never crossed my mind then. Of course now things are different, people have spare money but not always the room but even with both unless you've got plenty of years left it's probably not worth tripping over the things!

Re: Name your price
Indeed, I doubt anyone would get much of a return on an 'investment', esp. these Porsches recently. They still need maintaining, using and servicing, and on a Porsche that won't come cheap.
