Last time i was driving Rolf, i noticed the exhaust was making a knocking sound. It appears to be resting on the rear damper arm...

Now the leaf springs are looker a flatter than they should be, but they look ok, and aren't seperating. And the exhaust straps look ok, and haven't moved.

Do the damper arms support the weight of the car? or is it all on the springs. I dont think they spring hangers have given way, so is the problem just due to the old springs?

I've seen that before and it shouldn't be too hard to fix.

The damper arms just taske the damping load when the suspension moves - when there's no movement then there is no load on the arm.

To get increased clearance between the exhaust and the damper arm, loosen the ehaust rubbers and assosiated clamps - shove the exhaust away from the damper and retighten everything. The new alignment of the exhuast straps should now keep it clear of the damper arm.

ok, thats good. I was hoping not to have to do too much work on it. I'm in Kyiv at the moment, but will be back for Christmas.

The car is sat on my parents driveway now, unused
