trafalgar blue

hi
what colour is trafalgar blue ? ... my traveller has been brushed with what i was told is trafalgar blue, which is a kind of turquoise, but this week i got a can of spray paint from esm to do my valance and front panel and its come out a very deep purple, almost black ... is that right?
anyway i really like it but im going to have to do the whole thing now, oh well it needed painting anyway

real Traffy' Blue is a kind of Navy Blue, really. A turquiose colour is probably Bermuda Blue, or could even a very odd version of Smoke Grey but very unlikey to be that.

I believe there are two shades of Trafalgar blue and ESM supply the earlier shade (which is darker). I think 1967 was the year it changed.
This detail is in one of my books, but I can't say which one from memory...

You are right Chris one of our branch members has just resprayed a Traveller and its only when he did the interior he realised it was a quite different shade to the original.

thanks, like mr a says trafalgar blue is a sort of navy blue which is why it looks purple against my car. esm says my traveller was probably TEAL blue, which makes sense, the guy before me has matched it up with a ROVER trafalgar blue that hes brushed on because where its peeling its a different blue again ... anyway i really like this old trafalgar blue and im going to do the rest of the traveller in that a bit at a time
shame, when i came to rebuild the engine today i snapped a head stud and i had to take it all to bits again. i'll get one from esm tomorrow
.... anyway its front panel and valance look very smart while its sitting there doing nothing ...

If you get a choice - only use the old version of Traffy blue.
That way you (or any subsequent owner) can get touch up spray cans.

I had exactly the same problem with my 1960 car. I had a 1968 doner for a while as well and while both cars were supposed to be Trafalgar Blue they were clearly different. Halfords can supply Trafalgar Blue spray cans (listed as a Rover colour) and this is the EARLIER colour which has a hint of green in it. The later shade is flatter, not as dark and has no hint of green.
