Loose door handle

Post by TRIUMPH66 »

My 1971 Pick Up drivers' door handle is very loose and wobbly. I can't open the door easily either. Do I need to take the door card off to access the lock mechanism? What would be the problem? Also how would I fix this? Thanks

Sounds like you need a new door handle. Mines a bit loose too, its a retractable pin (controlled by the turn of the key) that gets pushed up into the internals of the door bolt/cam arrangement. The pin goes into a round hole which wears.

To get access to it, I believe you need to remove the door card, the upper door frame, the window winder and window, the internal door handle mechanism and then finally the external door handle. I think thats how the door is made up, its been a while since ive stripped a door. The external handle is actually the last part to be removed. Sorry.

Cheers

Steve

You should be thankful it isn't your postal van!

Door handles only used for opening anyway!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
