Can I use a Mini choke cable?

Post by gatsby989 »

I just fitted an SU HS4 carb to my Minor. The choke cable mostly works, but it's sort of jerry rigged. Is a choke cable for a 998 mini interchangeable? Or would it be too long or too short?

Also, the throttle cable was a bit frayed, but I was able to get it working. So I have the same question re the throttle cable.

Thanks!

Mini choke is probably too short - but if not - use it! A frayed throttle cable is useless. Again - a Mini one is likely to be too short. Best to buy a nice long cable with easy sweeping bends - and buy a spare at the same time to keep in the glovebox.......

Measure the ones you've got, and ring around a few mini places and ask how long their cables are!

If you find a choke cable that's a little too short, you can always move it to the far left position on the dash, and route it through a different hole in the bulkhead.

Cycle brake cable works a treat and is cheaper as well as abundant.

I have used it for the throttle in the past. Solder the end to overcome unwinding.

The choke cable (FUL136A) that is for sale at Bull Motif is 113 cm long, if that is a useful bit of information to you.

I only recently asked them.

Thanks all.

Thanks Roni, that is helpful. Should have mentioned that my current choke cable is not original or original spec, as it was set up for the weber... and I'm not sure that was done right either.

As mentioned I have also used these for the throttle. Simply cut the 'barrel' ended one off. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTB-INNER-AND ... 3a758e310f
