Hi chaps,

I don't know whether this is the right area for this, but does anyone know what the screw threads are for the glove box?

The guy at my local screw dealer said that they were metric and sold me a couple, but I can't screw them into the captive nuts under the dashboard. I don't really want to have to tap out the captive nuts under the dash andI'm hoping that the collective knowledge here will be able to advise me.

Also, does anyone know where I can source some from?

definitely not metric,give one the main dealers in moggie bits n pieces a ring ,I find the moggie centre in old bury very helpful

Thanks Alex, he also told me the screw to hold the dipswitch to the floor was metric too, as I need one of those too as I've knackered the end of the thread trying to get it through the carpet

NOTHING on a Minor 1000 is metric........

That's what I though and was a little suprised when he said it. I even took the screws with me.

Remove a screw from the B post door catch and see if that works----it's a 2ba thread.

I used #6 sheet metal screws in ours ('61) and they fit good, very similar to the ones that came out, which appeared to be original.

The threads are 2BA either hex or crosshead bolts.
You would think that a specialist outlet would know what they were talking about, haven't they ever heard of a thread gauge?
Untold damage is done to Minors by mixing up threads and forcing the wrong bolts into the threads, UNF into BSF etc.
The only metric threads are on the side valve engine

You would have thought so Mike. I thought that they would be a BA thread as they are such a fine pitch. I'll try the door catch screws and see if they fit and then order some online. I don't like mixing and matching threads, it isn't the right way to do things, makes life difficult and messes up my toolkit with AF and metric spanners and sockets. Ironically enough, the fittings for the oil pressure gauge are metric sizes. I guess it's easier to source metric sized hex bar.

I must admit that I haven't got a set of Whitworth spanners or sockets yet. I've been luck that nothing I've talked so far has needed them

Roy, took me a while to figure out what you meant by the pipe threads being BSP!!

Go on, Roy, now tell him which one's are BSPT - and explain that!

It's ok, I'm an engineer by training, having served an engineering apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence. I assumed that Roy was referring to the threads in the oil fittings being British Standard Pipe, although threaded into metric hex bar stock. BSPT = British Standard Pipe Taper
