Gudgeon pin clamps

In order to change the con-rod I must remove the piston; in the manual it says use a special tool to clamp the gudgeon pins in a vice to avoid damage.
I don't have these tools so is there an alternative?

Why do you need to clamp it at all - just undo the clamping screw and the gudgeon pin should slide out. The pin should be kept with the piston..........

OK - what I am thinking is the bolt will be quite tight and the piston will just turn round with the motion of the socket if it is not held.
Anyway I'll give it a go.

It won't be THAT tight - just hold the conrod shank in a vice - with soft jaws (or pad with a cloth) and it should be fine.
