Morris Minor Owners Club

i have been using comma 20-50 oil for my minor, and it's been suggested it's not the best for quality.
i am ready to purchase some more, and would like some advice on the best oil to use, and where to get it.

I use Comma Classic 20W50 in mine

The Comma Motorway stuff is a bit ropey (in my opinion) but others reckon its fine for a minor

I use Halford's Classic 20/50 because it is a greenbase formula, exactly like Duckham's before they ceased manufacturing it, and find it good quality.

I am prepared to spend a few pounds more on good oil and change it every 3000 miles rather than 'save' money on cheaper oil.

I am curious about the validity of needing "classic" oils. What exactly in the minor benefits from the older formulation?

Less aggressive formula, mineral as opposed to synthetic in structure, often contains seal swell to reduce leaks.

Change it and the filter every 2500-3000 miles.

I use millers 20w 50 or penritte 20w50, superb quality oil and been well tested and authorised etc...

Comma or Wilko 20W50 is perfectly satisfactory for a Minor engine. Just don't expect it to last for ever. The MOST important thing is to make sure the filter is correctly installed with plate and spring below the element - otherwise it's doing precisely NOTHING.

Personal favorite is Morris Oils of Shrewsbury (local company to me) they do a good classic range, good reputation and competive prices.
And you get a nice sheet of stickers with a box of four 5 litre cans!

Ian, try Premier Lubricants. They sell Morris oils cheaper and you get a good discount on a drum with free delivery.

Yes they've been brewing for centuries - if they were local I would use their products.

Ta for the tip, they'e good prices and I will bear that in mind if I'm stuck for a particular type. (Actually just ordered a couple from them for convenience)
For the bulk stuff I use (mainly 20/50) I'm fortunate that I've got a local supplier who buys in quantity enough to get a good price and he passes it on. Normally involves a Land Rover trip, returning well laden...
