1300cc oil pressure switch

can anyone tell me the difference between the 1300cc oil pressure switch and the standard Minor one?

None at all.

A gauge is better and gives advance warning plus tells you a lot about bearing condition - I have one fitted to all my cars now and consider it essential.

The question was what is the difference between the switches, as ESM sell two different switches, one fro the late 1300 and one for the 1098's

I've swapped 803 and Allegro switches so no problem there...

I recently bought a general purpose, off the shelf oil pressure switch for my 1275 engine and it works fine, no more driving along at 30mph with the low oil pressure light glowing

That must have been quite a concern at first Mike, until you found out it was a faulty switch. Doubly so if you had just rebuilt the 1275 (which I understand is in the pipeline).

No concern, I have one of those super oil pressure/water temp dual gauges, that's how I knew that the light was coming on at 30psi.
The 1275 rebuild is in a long pipeline, unless the bearings give up

Oh! 30 psi is good! It's doing a useful job then. A light that comes on at ~ 5 psi is useless - it's too late then!

I've just ordered a replacement pressure switch and an oil pressure gauge as I have no idea what is going on with the engine oilwise. The warning light comes on when the ignition is switched on initially and then goes out, only to come back on about 30 seconds later. The engine is an unknown quantity, as it wasn't stripped before it was installed.There is a major oil leak from the sump plug, which I'm hoping is just the sealing washer. However, the engine runs well and doesn't have any untoward knocking or rattles and doesn't smoke either. I'm going to change the oil tomorrow and refill with some cheap 'n' cheerful Wilko oil, and with the new pressure switch and gauge see if that cures the problem.
