Body Restoration.

Hi, I am considering having a full body restoration on my saloon. It will need four new wings, repairs to the rear inner wings, small amounts of welding to the floor pan, and a re spray. I am acquiring a quote from Morris Minor Millennium Company in Manchester. Do any of you have a rough guide of how much it will cost to have a full body restoration done to a good standard. Luckily, and I touch wood, she is mechanically sound and I want to body to match the mechanics.

Thanks

Kyle Evans

Depends entirely on the condition of the shell under the wings - if the wings are bad - there can be some 'horrors' lurking below..... The whole car should be surveyed carefully before starting any work - there may be problems with the chassis legs/crossmember/sills/door pillars/floors/boot floor etc - and you may as well find that out NOW rather than after spending a load of cash on wings etc....... I'll leave others with direct experience of the Co to comment on the MM Co.

I had a quote of around £2000 for the body welding on my Series II splitscreen. That included repairing all the usual Minor rust problems and sorting out the passenger side rear spring hanger. I didn't get the work done in the end and now it looks as though I will have to sell the car as I can't afford the cost of the repairs :(

John

Hi Kyle,

bodywork restoration is expensive as it takes a long time to do properly.

I would have to see your car and give it a thorough inspection before giving an estimate. Therefore, it is not possible to give a price, even a rough one from your description. Even a simple paint job would run into the thousands.

good luck!

I've just got my car back from Millennium where I had (amongst other things) new inner & outer sills, new boot floor, box sections, both chassis legs replaces and A & B post and inner wing repaired. I could have had patch welding done for a fraction of the cost but I know I'm good for a long time to come. I was chatting with the owners and some of their customers spend 6-8k on a full restoration but even they know when you're flogging a dead horse and I'm sure they'll tell you if that was the case. I'm happy with the service and as you'd expect they know these cars inside-out. If you want to discuss it with me or look at the car, PM me.
