My handbrake feels like its only working on one side only , is it a cable to each drum or one cable to a split somewhere and if so any tips on changing them

Two cables - obvious when you look at the lever Changing the cable was covered in a recent thread, so try a quick search. Make sure that it is the cable at fault and not a seized cylinder. If you need a new cable then get one with a grese point - and use it!

Most likely a seized cylinder - but of course the cable could be broken. No need to go under - pull the cables at the handle ! If one of them comes away in your hand - it's broken........

It might be just be a cable needs adjusting

If it is simply a siezed cylinder then it will pull to one side when braking and if the cylinder is siezed "on" the hub will be warm after driving and a general lack of performance.

I would check as Mike says, the adjustment of the cable first.

Doing that - you could just be pulling the cable up on a seized cylinder. The cables should never need adjusting again after they are initially set-up with properly adjusted (and correctly working) rear brakes with good shoes. Any subsequent wear on the shoes is taken up on the rear adjusters - NOT on the cables.

Check the cylinders are free before fitting - and adjust up the rear brakes firmly before you set the cables.......
